PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Education Purpose and Focus:

Physical education is an integral part of the total educational program. It contributes to the development of the individual in the cognitive, affective,  and psychomotor domains, primarily through his/her participation in physical activities.

A Physically Educated Person:

    • has learned the skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities;
    • is physically fit;
    • participates regularly in physical activities;
    • knows the implications and the benefits of involvement in physical activities;
    • values physical activity and its contributions to a healthy lifestyle. (NASPE)

Developmental/Adaptive Physical Education

Developmental/Adaptive Physical Education provides an educational support system for students who cannot safely or successfully participate in the regular physical education class. Developmental/Adapted Physical Education recognizes the individual differences of learners and emphasizes a continuum of development. Through instruction in carefully planned programs of diversified activities, students develop greater degrees of social independence, physical well-being, emotional stability, and problem-solving abilities.
